Flashback: MSN readers had backed India to win
Buoyed by India's excellent 87-run victory over Bangladesh in the World Cup opener, an overwhelming section of MSN India's readers have said that India will win the 2011 World Cup. The men-in-blue, who had lost their opening match to the same opponents in the 2007 edition, took revenge in style by stamping their authority on the match from the very start.
Of the 37,396 responses to our question, "Can India win the 2011 Cricket World Cup?"- 72% answered saying 'Yes'; 17% said 'No', while 11% felt it was a 'tough' question. India is hosting the cricket World Cup for the third time, and as this poll reveals, cricket fans are clearly backing Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his team to the hilt. The Indian XI in turn, justified these numbers with an excellent performance at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur on February 19.
After being asked to bat first by the Bangladesh, Virender Sehwag (175) and Virat Kohli (100) smashed their way past the bowlers as India posted a mammoth 370/4. In reply, Munaf Patel took 4/48 as the Bangladeshis finished with 283/9. Mahendra Singh Dhoni's boys have got off to a great start, and will be looking to sustain the winning momentum, when they take on England in Bangalore on the 27th of February.
