If in doubt ask President Barack Obama who has waxed eloquent about how Americans have to beat us in numbers and their crunching if they hope to get back the jobs that get routinely off-shored to India.
More than digging out interesting facts and figures, this exercise of taking a peek into the past from a numbers perspective, is meant to throw up several interesting aspects of a cricketer's career in the one and only tournament that has mattered to teams ever since it began more than a quarter of a century ago.
For example, every self-respecting Indian would be able to accurately mention the name of the top run getter in World Cups. Some of us may even know the batsman who is second on the list behind Sachin Tendulkar. But, it may be difficult to recall the player who is third on this list, more so if one were to make it difficult by insisting that he should still be playing the game at international level.
