Dravid, who was surprisingly named in India's Champions Trophy squad, found himself out of favour again after just one tournament.
Out of form pacer R P Singh, wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik and young all-rounder Abhishek Nayar were also left out of the squad announced by the BCCI after a meeting of the selection of its panel here.
Rookie Uttar Pradesh pacer Sudeep Tyagi was the lone new face in the squad, which also marked the return of Munaf Patel and young all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
The BCCI said Yuvraj, who is currently nursing a fractured finger, will be completely fit by October 28 for the second one-dayer in Nagpur and might be available for the first one-dayer as well on October 25 in Vadodara.
"Selectors are advised that Yuvraj would definitely be fit to play on October 28. It is possible that he may be able to play the first match as well," BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement.
"The decision on the playing XI for the first match will be made based on Yuvraj's fitness on October 25," he added.
Sehwag, meanwhile, has already recovered from his shoulder injury and is currently playing in the Champions League Twenty20.
India squad: MS Dhoni (capt/wk), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel, Sudeep Tyagi, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra.

i remember jimmy amarnath who said selectors are a bunch of jokers. Its proved again by dropping dravid. if dravid the wall can be dropped why not sachin who is not at all fit & fine for the last 3-4 years. he plays matches at his own whims & fancies and gets away with it. dhonis form has also been disastrous then why continue with him.
i agree that we need young legs but then why was dravid included for lanka & ct tous? will our jokers answer thsi question?? there is no logic in indian c ricket very very sad
Viraf Chinoy
I agree with Shetty.. Rahul is one of the living legends and he did perform great during the CT.he would have won the match against pak if bhajji wouldn't have run him out...
He has proved enough all these years and this is ridiculous..Maybe this is Dhoni's ploy too to have him out of the side...
This doesnt augur well for indian cricket
It doesnt come to me as a surprise that the selectors have dropped Rahul Dravid. The so called selectors who doesnt have any sense of selection has been doing all wrong all these years and continues to do so.
Talk abt dropping Saurav Ganguly from Irani Tropy in Sept 2008 which was one of the main reason that forced Ganguly to announce retirement, talk abt dropping the Living Legend Rahul Dravid time and again ,doubting his ability and asking him to prove his talent and potential whenever he goes through bad patch, the list goes on ...Just read another shocker that BCCI has sacked Indian team bowlling coach V Prasad and Fielding coach Robin Singh.
Why is it that BCCI have to always blame some or the other person for Indian team's poor performance ? Whats the logic behind sacking Prasad and Robin.? I wont be surprised if they decide to hire foreign coaches for bowling and fielding.
The only right decision that BCCI can now take is that they themselves can resign from the committee.
What can one expect form biased BCCI who sacked India's most influential and most successful captain till date Saurav Ganguly from Irani Trophy because he scored just 96 runs in 3 matches.
Not even a single player played well in that series but Ganguly was only targeted. Sachin scored less than Ganguly but he still got a place in Irani trophy just because he is Sachin. Even if Sachin scores 0 in 10 matches still he would be selected and his poor form wont be taken into consideration but If the greats like Dravid or Ganguly goes through a lean patch in few matches, they are sacked straight away. Their talent and contribution to the Indian team is completely overlooked .
I have nothing against Sachin, He is a true genius and my favourite cricketer but I am trying to highlight that the selection committee has been playing politics since years.
Rahul Dravid is one of the best batsman in the world and deserves a place in both forms of cricket with no second thought. If Dravid's talent is being questioned , I would want each and every player in the current Indian squad to prove their potential for their place in the team.
Rahul Dravid is a savior and his presence on the field is enough to shatter the strategies of the opposition.
I have stopped following and watching Indian Cricket since the time Ganguly made his way.
Our country will never be able to replace the greats like Saurav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. Ganguly gave a new dimension and brought back the Indian spirit for cricket after the unforgetable match fixing scandal and whitewash in test series against Australia. This entire funda of youngistan is originally laid by Ganguly himself which has been entrusted to Dhoni's shoulder.
Rahul Dravid has always been a WALL and a SAVIOUR and has been solely responsible for saving innumerable matches when the team was in trouble.
We might witness Dravid's ODI career ending in the same note as it was with Ganguly.
We must not let this happen.
We want Dravid Back at any cost.....
SEEMS A GOOD TEAM COMPARE TO THE CT TEAM..KEEPING WORLD CUP IT WILL NICE TO TRY THIS ENERGETIC PLAYERS MAKING DRAVID OUT BUT ISHANT NEEDS REST AND CAN BE AVOIDED VS AUS. OTHERWISE IT IS A WISE SELECTION WITH DHONI'S CAPTAINSHIP.
This is a great loss to the INDIAN CRICKET TEAM as they should not forget what rahul has done for us in the past. Right now he's not in his old form but the board shouldn't let his experience go waste in search of fresh blood..... i mean its good to give more chances to kohli and jadeja but they cnt match dravid's potential. DRAVID IS STILL D WALL.
