Germany's World Cup winning squad have today returned home from Brazil, with fans gathering on the so-called 'Fan Mile' at the landmark Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to wait for the return of the victorious team.

Hundreds of thousands of fans attended the event to celebrate after Joachim Löw's team clinched Germany's first World Cup since 1990.

Mario Götze scored the winning goal in the final against Argentina, which sparked delirium in Germany and secured the nation's fourth title, after victories in 1954, 1974 and 1990.

After securing victory the German squad partied long into the night, with Rihanna, who was at the match and tweeted a series of photos of her with beaming members of the squad.

Judging by the size of the crowds in Berlin, the party looks set to continue for a few days yet.
