After starting from pole position, the Red Bull racer maintained the lead after the first turn and had already opened a gap of more than two seconds over Hamilton's McLaren following the first lap. After damaging his under tray from running over the grass on lap 35, Hamilton managed to hold on to his second place ahead of Renault's Vitaly Petrov, who had an amazing race.

Petrov who started from P6 managed to climb three places to finish on the podium. The Russian had to face a tough competition from Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who tried till the final stages to outpace the Renault, but eventually finished at fourth place.
