South Africa's record in ICC tournaments

For a team that has had talented players aplenty since its re-entry into international cricket in 1991, South Africa has won only one of the 13 major ICC tournaments that it has taken part in over the last 19 years. MSN India takes a look at the Proteas' record in these tournaments.

South Africa came into the 2009 Champions Trophy as the top-ranked team in the world in ODIs, and as the tournament was being hosted at home, the Proteas were expected to be one of the strong contenders for the title. However, lacklustre bowling performances against Sri Lanka and England, meant that the batsmen had to chase 300+ scores, which they failed to. South Africa did defeat New Zealand, and even though they lost to England by only 22 runs, chasing a target of 323, it was yet another early exit for the hosts, as they exited the tournament at the group stage itself.
