Nationality: South African
Presently coaching: South Africa
Other teams coached: India (2008-2011)
The humble South African took over from Greg Chappell as the coach of the Indian cricket team in 2008. India leveled the 3-Test away series against South Africa, which was Kirsten's first assignment with the Indian team. Post that, he helped India win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and their maiden bilateral series against Sri Lanka on foreign soil. India also registered their first ODI series victory in New Zealand after a gap of 40 years under Kirsten. However the ultimate high of his term as Team India's coach remains the historic World Cup victory in 2011, India's first in 28 years. The team bid him an emotional farewell soon after. Kirsten is credited for improving the bating performances of the Indian players and for promoting young blood by showing ample confidence in their abilities.
