As the Indian and the Australian teams gear up for the third Test match of the on-going Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth, we bring to you some of the best Tests played at the WACA over the years.

Occasion: India in Australia Test Series - 2nd Test, 1977
Brief Scores: India 402 and 330-9 dec; Australia 394, 342-8
Result: Australia won by 2 wickets
Star(s) of the match: Bobby Simpson

Chetan Chauhan (88) and Mohinder Amarnath (90) fell short of their centuries but had set the stage for a competitive total in the first innings. Wicketkeeper Kirmani, Venkataraghavan and Madan Lal also chipped in useful knocks to take India to 402. In reply, skipper Bobby Simpson, coming in at 65-3, scored 176 as he almost singlehandedly helped Australia avoid giving away any considerable lead. Riding on centuries from Gavaskar (127) and Amarnath (100), India reached 283-4 before slipping to 330-9 when the skipper invited the hosts to chase 339 for a win. Tony Mann (105) and Peter Toohey (89) then guided the Australia chase before Bedi picked up two quick wickets when the hosts were 9 short of victory. India needed two more wickets but Wayne Clark and Jeff Thompson held their nerves to clinch a thriller for the Aussies.
