India's unbeaten run at the Eden Gardens since 2001 finally came to an end as they succumbed to a crushing defeat at the hands of England in the third Test. The home side hardly ever had an upper hand in the Test match as England put in a solid effort in all departments on the field. Team India's overall performance in this crucial game was much worse than their display in Mumbai for several reasons. They were careless with the bat, lackluster in the field and seemed to have done very little homework on England's most dangerous batsman- Alastair Cook.

The only bright period for the Indian bowlers came on the fourth day when they removed the last four English batsmen in quickly and raised hopes of rescuing a draw. All seemed to be going right for India when Gambhir and Sehwag kept their wickets until lunch time. After lunch however, it was all downhill for India as their batsmen simply went down in a heap. Ashwin fought like a warrior in the end to frustrate the English bowlers. His fight did avert an innings defeat and made England come out to play on the final day, but it did little to avoid the inevitable as England completed a truly deserving win on day 5. The visitors are now closing in on their first Test series win in India since 1984. For India on the other hand, nothing less than a win in Nagpur can save the series now.

MSN India brings you the complete analysis of how the Indian players fared in this disaster at Eden.
