India defeat Sri Lanka by 81 runs in a rain-curtailed match in Port of Spain
India thrashed Sri Lanka by 81 runs (D/L method) to not only qualify for the Tri-Nation Series final but also top the group after the last league match got over at the Queen's Park Oval here Tuesday.
A splendid bowling performance by pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and a gritty knock by opening batsman Rohit Sharma were significant in bringing India home.
India were batting at 119/3 in 29 overs when the skies opened up and wasted four and a half hours of play. After rain stopped, Sri Lanka were given a revised target of 178 to chase from 26 overs.
India had to keep their neighbouring opponents below 167 to have any chance of making into the final, which the World Champions achieved with 1.2 overs to spare bowling out Lanka for a measly 96.
