India went 1-0 up in the four-match Test series with a 9-wicket victory in Motera
Although the margin of victory seems one-sided, the win was far from emphatic for the home team. For the first couple of days, India pretty much looked in complete control, thanks to a fabulous unbeaten double-ton by Cheteshwar Pujara and a comeback ton from Virender Sehwag. It all got even better when Indian spinners Ojha and Ashwin restricted England to 191 in their first innings, forcing a follow-on. Ojha was the pick of the bowlers with his 5-wicket haul.
The England second innings however, was a whole different story. Captain Alastair Cook and Matt Prior almost secured a draw out of nothing with an outstanding partnership. With the two unbeaten toward the end of the fourth day, England looked likely to snatch an unlikely draw. However, Ojha rose to the occasion once again on the fifth day and ensured that the hard work in the first innings wasn’t wasted. He dismissed both Cook and Prior to secure the path for a comfortable Indian victory in the end.
