First Test victory
On April 12, 1976, India secured a historic win over West Indies at the Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. Centuries from Gundappa Viswanath and Sunil Gavaskar helped India chase down a record 403-run target against the mighty Windies team. Vinoo Mankad took 8/55 as England were bowled out for 266 after winning the toss and opting to bat first. In reply, Pankaj Roy (111) and Polly Umrigar (130) struck centuries as India raked up a mammoth 457/9 declared. Ghulam Ahmed and Vinoo Mankad then took four wickets each as England fell for 183, to give India their first test win by an innings and 8 runs.
