Vinoo Mankad took 8/55 as England were bowled out for 266 after winning the toss and opting to bat first. In reply, Pankaj Roy (111) and Polly Umrigar (130) struck centuries as India raked up a mammoth 457/9 declared. Ghulam Ahmed and Vinoo Mankad then took four wickets each as England fell for 183, to give India their first test win by an innings and 8 runs.
