Current US Open doubles champion Leander Paes was awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan award by the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee. At 40, Paes became the oldest man to clinch a Grand Slam with victory in the men's doubles final of the 2013 US Open. Paes, who was awarded the Arjuna award in 1990, the Khel Ratna in 1997 and the Padma Shri in 2001 was the ministry’s lone choice for the country’s third highest civilian honour this year.
