Sachin Tendulkar sent the Kiwi bowlers on a leather hunt in Motera, bringing up his maiden double century in the process. The Kiwis brought the misery onto themselves by dropping Sachin twice, and the batsman made sure that they paid dearly for their mistakes. He was eventually dismissed by Daniel Vettori who had him caught by Dion Nash.
Sachin's double century helped India to 583 all out after they had won the toss and elected to bat first. The Kiwis were bowled out for 308, handing India a lead of 275 runs. India batted again to make 148/5 declared; giving New Zealand a hefty target of 424 runs to chase. The Kiwi batsmen saw the final day off, to ensure that the match ended in a draw.
