Phelps owned the 'Water cube'. Whenever he took to the swimming pool at the Beijing National Aquatics Center, records were broken, records were set and medallions were collected in a heap. The American swimmer bagged eight golds at the mega-event and surpassed fellow countryman, Mark Spitz's 36-year old record by a single medal. However, the winning spree was not without its share of controversies. Phelps'seventh gold medal came under debatable circumstances with Serbia's Milorad Cavic expressing dissatisfaction with the result. Later, video footage confirmed that Phelps had overcome Cavic by a miniscule 0.01 seconds. The swimmer who waded his way to glory had a simple plan for success. Ahead of the 4x200 freestyle relay, Phelps said, "Eat, sleep and swim. That's all I can do." He never needed to do anything more.
