Jesse Owens
1936 Berlin: At a time when Adolf Hitler was trumpeting his flawed idea of 'Aryan racial superiority', 22-year old American Jesse Owens won four gold medals- 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and the long jump. In the last event, it is believed that the 'Buckeye Bullet' received tactical help, from German competitor Luz Long. Owen's performances, coupled with his friendship with Long, is symbolic of the human spirit's triumph over racism.
