Olympic 10M Air Rifle: Narang in final; Bindra knocked out

It was a remarkable qualification round in the 10M Air Rifle event where the best shooters of the world displayed nerves of steel and the Indian connection was intact although it was end of campaign for Beijing Gold-medallist Abhinav Bindra. But, world record holder Gagan Narang showed his class while qualifying for the final

Olympic 10M Air Rifle: Narang in final; Bindra knocked out

Gagan Narang was simply unstoppable. The last shooter to get off the blocks in the 10M air rifle event today was on a roll getting his first 25 shots bang on target. Under immense pressure after Norwegian Magnus Ole Bakken and Italian Niccolo Campriani set the tone with a great start, Narang held his composure to stay in the hunt. He dropped his first shot in the 3rd round and within the next two, he dropped another but that did not deter him from making it to the final. Narang came back strongly after that to hold his nerve and finish with 598. He also had a better share of Inner 10s to ensure he finished 3rd after the qualification. Narang will now be considered a strong contender for a medal when the final commences shortly.
