Located on the south bank of the River Thames, Greenwich Park covers an area of 183 acres and as London's oldest Royal Park, it is well known for being the home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Royal Observatory. For the Olympics, the park has been completely transformed to host the equestrian events as well as the running and shooting disciplines of the Modern Pentathlon. There is a cross-country course within the park, which has been a World Heritage Site since 1997, while a temporary arena for dressage and show-jumping has been set up in the grounds of the National Maritime Museum to the north of the park.
