Hyde Park is London's largest Royal Park and covers an area of 350 acres. It is situated in the West End of London and has been open to the public since 1637. The park will be transformed into a temporary venue for the Games with 3,000 seats and is the setting for both the triathlon and open-water swimming marathon events - with the Serpentine Lake being used for the swimming. Hyde Park is also the setting for many of the music and cultural events staged during London 2012 as part of the Cultural Olympiad.
