Somdev, Sania move up in tennis rankings

New Delhi: India's Somdev Devvarman rose 13 places on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) chart rankings while Sania Mirza went up nine places in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings released on Monday.

Somdev, now ranked 140, has started the season on the right note, qualifying for the main draw of LA Open and then Legg Mason Tennis tournament, where he caused ripples by beating World No. 15 Croat Marin Cilic in the opening round before going down to big serving Ivo Karlovic.

Sania, whose attempt to win back-to-back International Tennis Federation (ITF) titles failed after she lost the Vancouver Open final Sunday, is now at the 74th position. Her doubles rankings is static at 49th.

Prakash Amritraj has jumped three places to be at 261st position on the ATP singles ladder.

In the men's double rankings, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi are static at sixth and ninth position.
