Unseeded in the singles, Prakash shocked his fifth seed opponent 7-6(2) 6-2 in the opening round of the $1,00,000 hard court event.

He will next play Latvian Andis Juska, who sent packing Korean wild card Sang-Woo Noh 6-2, 6-3 in the first round.

However, a disappointing result was in store for Prakash in the doubles as he and his American partner Alex Kuznetosv suffered a 3-6, 4-6 defeat at the hands of second seeded South African-Dane pair of Rik de Voest and Frederik Nielsen in the first round.

Meanwhile, fourth seed Purav Raja and Sadik Kadir of Australia stormed into the doubles quarter-finals after scoring a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win over Slovakian pair of Kamil Capkovic and Pavol Cervenak.

They will next take on Greg Jones and Pavel Snoel.
